India recorded an almost 40% increase in daily Covid-19 instances on Thursday, with 12,213 new cases reported so far. Since February 26, daily infections in the country have stayed below 10,000. The countrys overall active caseload increased to 58,215.

The daily positivity rate and the weekly positivity rate increased and touched 2.35 % and 2.38 % respectively. The number of daily tests performed increased from 0.32 million to 0.51 million in the last two days. 11 deaths owing to Covid-19 infection were recorded, taking the total death toll to   524,803 in the country. India saw a recovery of 42.66 million people from the viral infection.

According to Mr. Mansukh Mandaviya, the Union Health Minister, 89 % of India’s adult population were vaccinated with 90.37 crore individuals being vaccinated with both doses of Covid-19 vaccines.

Until Thursday evening, India had successfully administered 1.95 billion vaccination doses across the country.

Maharashtra, Kerala, Delhi, and Karnataka continue to be the states with the surging fresh cases. In Maharashtra, there were 4,024 cases of Covid-19, with 2,366 cases and two deaths in Greater Mumbai. Four new instances of the B.A.5 type of the virus have been confirmed by the Maharashtra health ministry in Mumbai, Thane, and Pune. Maharashtra reported a hospitalization rate of 2-3%.
